Cryptocurrency mining has done it again and this time it’s not for the better. Since GPU mining is the most efficient way of mining cryptocurrencies, their demand has increased tremendously, so tremendous that there is actually a great shortage of GPUs in the market causing GPU prices to skyrocket. The new prices are absurd and not worth the money, one mid-range card the “GTX 1060” costs more than two PlayStation 4s. Prices seem to be increasing, affecting both Nvidia and AMD cards alike. Except for the low-end cards like Nvidia’s GTX 1050 and AMD’s RX 560, all other midrange and high-end cards have been greatly affected.
The GTX 1060 and RX 580 that cost around 250$ on the time of their release now cost above 600$, to say the least, the GTX 1070, GTX 1080ti have crossed the 1000$ mark and it makes more sense to buy a Titan XP since it costs almost the same and performs much much better. Even both the RX Vegas have crossed the 1000$ mark. In short, the GPU market has undergone a serious change, that is quite odd.
And the thing about cryptocurrency mining is that it has a long way to go and isn’t going to end anytime soon, it has a massive negative effect on the PC gaming community, the price to performance ratio is pretty bad. Cryptocurrency mining has done it for good, GPUs now cost more than our Kidneys. The End Is Nigh!
