How to add an outline to text in GIMP

How Can We Help?

  1. Launch GIMP

  2. Create a New Image (File->New Image)
  3. Select the Text Tool (T) and add some text with the size and colour you want.

  4. Right click on the Text Layer and select Layer to Image Size. This will resize the layer to the size of the image

  5. Then duplicate the layer

  6. Select the layer you have just duplicated.

  7. Next right click on the Text Layer and select Alpha to Selection

  8. Click on the Select menu item and select Grow

  9. Now select the Growth you want

  10. Select a Foreground color for the outline

  11. Click on the Edit menu item and select Fill with FG Color

  12. That is it, you have your outline text
